Generating Reinvestment

By successfully offering a happy place to learn and work, we’ll naturally generate the participation that leads to reinvestment and long-term success.

Participation at Stamford Public Schools

Stamford Public Schools was losing $500,000 annually, and participation rates were low. The district partnered with Chartwells in 2009 with the objective of increasing participation and sales through improved quality and variety.

We updated menus with fresher food options, more reflective of the district’s diversity. Meal programs were expanded to more schools and alternative meal service was implemented to increase accessibility, participation and reimbursement.

Participation at Lake Hamilton School District

In response to a decline in meal participation, district leadership partnered with Chartwells to introduce Student Choice. Schools used student volunteers as program ambassadors – encouraging their peers to take part – and announcements were made in the cafes with digital signage. Sampling areas were strategically positioned for maximum exposure and included laptops for voting.

Good Stewardship: Protecting People and the Planet

A partnership with Chartwells will give you confidence that your foodservice program is committed to good stewardship, protecting your community, and the sustainability of the planet.

We Have Your Back

There are times when we have unique opportunities to serve the community in truly remarkable ways – and the pandemic offered us many!

During the pandemic, Chartwells’ chefs, dietitians and foodservice workers showed up to serve meals in schools, through bus deliveries and at community pick-up sites, ensuring that no child went hungry. Working with sister sectors from Compass Group to get the supplies and talent they needed to pivot, our superheroes delivered more than 300 million meals.

Safety First

Food safety, cleanliness, sanitation and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) are among our highest priorities. These efforts are supported by operational guides, safety signage, audits, extensive management training, online training and in-service trainings. Each school is regularly inspected for compliance, including observations of food-handling associates at work and inspection of the HACCP logs.

Sustainable Future

To lay the foundation for a healthy future, Chartwells is all about using the energy of our business to benefit our communities and planet. From our sourcing strategy to the orders placed for your school and the way we manage waste, this mission engages everyone!

Moving as One for Massive Impact

In 2021, Compass Group collectively made an impact that benefitted the entire supply chain with jaw-dropping results:

  • We removed 17 million pounds of single-use plastics (we’re ocean-lovers!)
  • We provided of 1.1 million meals to local communities (we give back!)
  • We purchased 7 million pounds of plant-based meat alternatives (nobody likes methane!)
  • And we spent $530 million with diverse suppliers (we love entrepreneurs!)
